Spring Term

Extreme Reading Challenge!

Petersfield Infant School is inviting all the children to take part in our Extreme Reading Challenge!

This year the challenge will take place between Monday 6th April and Sunday 19th April 2020. Where is the strangest or most unusual place you can find to be photographed reading? Perhaps you can read upside down or maybe on top of a climbing frame! You can read anything – newspapers, comics, books, recipes, magazines, seed packets, leaflets, posters, cereal packets – be inventive!

Please send your photographs to the office at adminoffice@petersfield-inf.hants.sch.uk and the most unusual or extreme reading place photos will be displayed here on the website.

Even some of our class animals are joining in with the Challenge – this is a photograph of Floppy from Rabbits Class enjoying reading a book in a very unusual place!

Happy Storytelling Week!

We have all thoroughly enjoyed our activities during Storytelling Week which ended today.  Today the children listened to their favourite stories read by the grown ups!

Happy World Book Day!

The staff at Petersfield Infant School joined in the fun for World Book Day!

Please take a look at your child’s class page to see more World Book Day photographs!

Travelling Book Fair

We would like to say a very big ‘thank you’ to everyone who came to the Travelling Book Fair – these are the books we bought with the commission from the book sales.

Our artwork outside the Petersfield Museum is up! Every child in Year 1 and Year 2 decorated a tile for this beautiful mosaic. The school councillors from Years 1 and 2 proudly ‘unveiled’ our art work with Ryan from the museum, today! Doesn’t it look fabulous?

Autumn Term

We had a delicious Christmas dinner at school today. A huge thank you to our amazing Kitchen Staff!

The Year 2 choir went to Gloucester Court to sing Christmas songs to the residents. Thank you to Gloucester Court for the generous donation to enable us to buy some new books.

Say ‘hello’ to our new School Librarians!

Children in Year 1 and Year 2 have chosen their new school librarians!  They will be responsible for ensuring our school library is kept tidy with all the books in the correct places!  Year R librarians will be chosen by their class mates in January.

The Big Climate Fightback!

As a school we pledged to plant a tree as part of The Woodland Trust campaign, ‘The Big Climate Fightback’. This project aims to protect the future of our planet and support climate change by asking people to plant one of a million trees on 30 November 2019.

Mrs Ballinger has kindly donated a beautiful crab apple tree which we showed the children in assembly this morning. A group of children then planted our new tree with Mrs Ballinger inside our pond area. We look forward to nurturing our tree and watching it grow for many years to come.

Our Christmas Shoeboxes have been collected!

We had a wonderful response to the Shoebox Appeal this year! The children helped Dave and Claire to load 211 Christmas shoeboxes into the Link to Hope van, 68 of which came from other settings in the area. Thank you so much to everyone who helped to support this worthwhile cause by sending a Christmas Shoebox into school with their child.

The School Councillors from Year 1 and Year 2 had a special lunch with Karen Brewster from HC3S and tried some delicious new food!

They then held their first meeting to discuss their classes views and ideas about our school lunches.

Year R Dad’s Breakfast

Once again our Dad’s breakfast was well supported by Dads, Grandads, Uncles and Carers! It was lovely to see so many new faces and old sharing Breakfast with their children and later sharing stories in the classrooms. Thank you to everyone who was able to make the event.

Say hello to our new School Councillors!

Children in Year 1 and Year 2 having been busy voting for their new school councillors! This year, we had an overwhelming number of children delivering speeches to their class! Every child then practised one of our Britsh Values – Democracy – by using their  personal vote to elect two new councillors. Year R councillors will be elected by their class mates in January.

We are very proud to have been awarded Silver in the School Project category and Bronze in the Environmental Project category at this year’s Petersfield in Bloom Awards.

Mrs Crew and Mrs Amor went along to the Festival Hall to collect our certificates. Huge thanks to Mrs Jones and the Go Outdoor Gang for making our school grounds look so beautiful! Here are this year’s GOG children, ready to take up the gardening challenge!

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Henry Adams for providing the medals and trophies and for judging the competition along with two of our governors.

What a great way to end the year!

We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has so very kindly donated a new book to our school library!

As you can see there are so many different titles both fiction and non-fiction which the children are definitely going to enjoy in September!

Congratulations to our last Lunchtime Superstar of the year!

Well done for remembering to follow our Lunchtime Code.

We have had an amazing Dinosaur Week, concluding with a fantastic visit from Teach Rex. We learnt lots of interesting facts about dinosaurs from the awe inspiring Joe, Sam and Jam! We also became movie stars, creating our very own Green Screen dinosaur movies!

Grand re-opening of Borough Hill recreation ground.

Guinness World Record Attempt!

We all had a fantastic time trying to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people simultaneously hugging a soft toy. We think we have smashed the current record by hugging 373 toys for 1 minute and 3 seconds! It was very exciting to have television and radio reporters filming and interviewing us and a special celebratory, Dr Radha Modgil from CBeebies! Big thanks to Barnardo’s and everyone involved for making this such a successful event.

Listen to our World Record attempt:
BBC Radio Solent

Introduction at 33mins:21secs and full feature at 57mins.

Thank you to TPS Year 9 GCSE music group, who came and performed a fantastic concert for Year 1 and 2.

The Big Battery Hunt!

Look how many batteries we have managed to collect as part of The Big Battery Hunt’.

The Big Battery Hunt is a nationwide battery recycling initiative funded by Duracell. Young people in schools across the UK are encouraged to think about the importance of recycling, and then challenged to collect as many used batteries as they can. The aim is for each pupil to contribute to an overall total of 4 million batteries being recycled. Well done everyone!

Henry Crew came back to see us all!

Henry came to visit us last April before he set off around the world on his motorbike. He is now the youngest person to have circumnavigated the globe by motorbike and hopes to be in the next Guinness Book of Records. Henry brought his motorbike into the hall and showed the children photographs of some of the places he visited. Year 2 children stayed in the hall a little longer to ask Henry lots of interesting questions!

Henry is raising money for Movember and you can find out more about his trip on his website: www.35000miles.com or on his Instagram page

Petersfield Library

We were invited by Petersfield Library to have a display in the Children’s Area – when you visit to change your books, please take a look at the most amazing artwork of the children in Year 2!
