Meet our New Arrivals Ambassadors!

IMG_0077 (Small)
The New Arrivals Ambassador scheme provides additional support to pupils who are joining a school part way It recognises the huge potential that exists within school  for pupils to use their skills and knowledge to support new arrivals so that they feel safe, settled and valued from the start. Our New Arrivals Ambassadors have had specific training to prepare for this role and the group is led in school by Mrs Ballinger.

The support they can offer to a newly-arrived pupil can be very reassuring from a parent point of view, at a time when their child may be adapting to substantial changes. It also supports school staff in a variety of ways at different points during the school day. New Arrivals Ambassadors use their communication skills in a variety of ways to help new arrivals feel part of the school. They explain a whole range of school activities, systems and procedures to new entrants through the medium of pupil–friendly communication and develop resources to help the new arrival settle quickly into the life of the school.

Puffin Pupils Collect £1,000 cheque from

Radian Housing Association!

IMG_0753

In the autumn term the school was awarded £1,000 by Radian Housing as part of their Radian Schools Challenge. The school was one of six winners in the South. This funding was to support a range of initiatives aimed at strengthening and developing links with retired and elderly people. The project has enabled us to run our Silver Surfers day for grandparents, advertise locally for retired volunteers, fund class shoeboxes for our Christmas appeal and send pupils to sing at local care homes. At the end of March, we held a very successful coffee morning for grandparents and retired volunteers when children from across the school sang for our special visitors and the school councillors handed out cakes, biscuits and savoury items, which had all been made by the children in school. We were joined at the coffee morning by four of the Radian Area Panel and as a result, the school has now been awarded a further £1,000 as the overall winner! Both visitors and the judges from Radian were extremely complimentary about the performances and the excellent manners and behaviour of the children. Children from Puffins class went along with Mrs Crew to collect the cheque from Chair of the Radian Housing Area Panel.
