Y1 – Autumn 2

Welcome to the Year 1 page!

This week in school!

Our stars of the week are…

In PSHE we wrote letters to special people in our lives.

We had a great time at our Christmas party. We played Santa says, musical statues, tinsel limbo, sleeping reindeer and did lots of amazing dancing.

Our Christmas lunch was delicious. We had a lovely time.

In mathematics we have been using shapes to make tangrams.

This week we went to Petersfield Museum. We explored old and new toys and learned about the ways that toys have changed through history.

We had a fantastic time putting on our Christmas performance ‘Barmy Bethlehem’. We really enjoyed it and hope that you did too.

In RE we have been learning about Angels. We found out that they are messengers. Ask us where angels appear in the Christmas story?

Our stars of the week are…

In English we read What do you do if your house is a zoo? We thought about what different animals need and made lists. We also made some animal homes which included all the things that an animal might need.

In mathematics we have been naming 2D and 3D shapes. We made pictures using 2D shapes and continued repeated patterns.

In DT we designed and started to make freestanding structures. Our design brief is to create a piece of playground equipment which is strong, stable and fun.

In music we walked and clapped to the beat. We then walked the dog and made our own actions for the journey to the music.

In English we read Supermarket Zoo. We wrote a list of all the animals we would like to buy and a letter to Granny telling her about our trip to the Supermarket zoo.

In mathematics we solved problem using what we already know e.g. number bonds. We used a bar model to draw the whole, then the parts and then a complete bar model.

In R.E we talked about angels, what they look like, what they do, when people might think about them and when we might see one.

For forfeit day we wore our own clothes to school. Don’t we look GREAT!

In English we read Supermarket Zoo. We were surprised to find so many animals in a supermarket! We wrote a list of the animals that we had seen.

In mathematics we investigated odd and even numbers. We learned how to count in twos starting at 0 and at 1!

In Design and Technology this week we made models of freestanding structures. We thought of ways to make our models stronger and more stable.

Today is Children In Need day. It was a non uniform day and we hope that we have raised lots of money to help some children.

It was anti-bullying week at school. On Monday we wore odd socks to remind us all to be kind to each other.

In English we read Slug needs a hug. We spotted the rhyming words and matched them. We wrote some amazing sentences using the rhyming words.

In Music we listened to Promenade by George Gershwin. We kept the beat by walking in time to the music and using our fingers to walk across our hand.

We met gymnast Kelly Simms and found out what it takes to be an British champion. She inspired us to stick at it, even when the going gets tough. Our sponsored activities were great fun and we raised lots of money for our school. Thank you to all the people who kindly sponsored us.
