Physical Education

At Petersfield Infant School, we follow the ‘Real Pe’ scheme made by create development. Real PE, is first and foremost, a philosophy and approach which aims to transform how PE is taught, in order to include, challenge and support every child. It supports teachers and other deliverers to make small changes that will have a significant impact on their learners.

Using the Real PE cogs (social, personal, cognitive, creative, health and fitness and physical) we take the children on a journey of learning and developing of their key skills through a fun, exciting and inclusive thematic approach. PE is taught in two timetabled sessions each week, utilising both the indoor and outdoor environments.

The Fundamental movement skills (FMS) are the basic movements traditionally associated with human physical activity. Pupils should develop these skills and become increasingly competent and confident in accessing a broad range of opportunities. As well as following the Real PE scheme, create development offer a range of different skills. Examples of which are below.

Our vision for PE at Petersfield

At Petersfield Infant School, we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. We provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development.

The aim of Physical Education is to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles and children are taught from as early as Reception, how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and, using the medium of physical activity, increase their self-esteem and wellbeing.

Our PE Curriculum, alongside PDL and Science, teaches children about the importance of healthy living and the many benefits of physical activity. At Petersfield Infant School, we aim for children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills which will have a positive impact on their future by becoming independent, physically active citizens, to benefit their long-term health and well-being.
