Year R and Year 1

 Autumn 1 Week 4

This week, we have enjoyed the fantastic story Shark in the Park, which has provided lots of opportunities for talking, listening and developing our imaginations. We have used the story as part of our Drawing Club sessions, encouraging the children to develop their vocabulary, drawing skills and early writing. The children have been busy creating their own ideas and using pictures and words to share their thinking. It has been lovely to see everyone brushing off those summer holiday cobwebs and getting back into the swing of writing!

🔢 Maths

In Maths, we have been working hard on counting forwards and backwards. The children have been practising their number sequences and developing their confidence with numbers.

Our Year 1 children have also been developing their understanding of greater than and less than, using the symbols > and < to compare numbers. They have enjoyed thinking carefully about which numbers are bigger and smaller and explaining how they know.

🌾 RE

In RE, we have continued to explore the importance of symbols and have begun to link our learning to the Harvest Festival. The children have been thinking about what harvest means and the different ways people celebrate and show thankfulness for the food and resources we have.

🌟 Reception

Our Reception children have been busy completing their baseline assessments. These are helping us to find out more about each child and their individual starting points, so that we can support their learning and development as they begin their school journey.

It has also been fantastic to see our Reception children really getting into the flow of school life. They are becoming increasingly confident with our routines, making friends and exploring their new environment.

🥪 Snack Shack

Our Snack Shack has also got off to a fantastic start! The children have been developing their independence by choosing and managing their own snacks, practising important skills such as making choices, tidying up and looking after themselves.

Autumn 1 Week 3

What a lovely week we have had! The children have been thoroughly enjoying lots of Discovery Time, exploring their interests, developing their independence and learning through play and practical experiences.

In Drawing Club, we have been exploring the story of Chicken Licken. The children have enjoyed talking about the characters and have particularly enjoyed describing the fox. They have used their imaginations to create drawings and share their ideas, developing their vocabulary and confidence when talking about their work.

In Maths, we have had lots of practical, hands-on opportunities to explore grouping in different ways. The children have been sorting and organising objects, talking about how groups can be made and changed, and explaining their mathematical thinking. It has been wonderful to see them learning through practical experiences and working together to solve problems.

We have also begun our Christmas preparations this week. The children have started preparing their Christmas cards, taking care with their creations and enjoying the excitement of getting ready for the festive season.

In RE, we have been learning about symbols and thinking about how symbols can represent something that is important to us. The children enjoyed designing their own symbols to represent our school, explaining their ideas and thinking carefully about what their symbol could mean.

This week, we have also made a start on Reading Club and Phonics. The children have been introduced to our routines and have enjoyed beginning to develop their reading skills. We are looking forward to building on this over the coming weeks.
