Y2 – Summer 1

Week 2: W/C 22nd April 2024

Here are the stars this week!

e started the week by going on an exciting trip to Hayling Island to help enhance our Geography and Art work on ‘Brilliant Beaches!’  We had a great time and we were pleased it didn’t rain!  Thank you to all the parents that came along to help!

In Art, we have been doing observational drawings of shells. We were inspired by the artist Amiria Gale. We used these new found skills to draw shells  whilst we were on the beach too!

Some of the classes extended our drawing skills by using charcoal this week. Did you know charcoal was made from burnt willow wood? We used the charcoal to draw pebbles just like Paul Stowe.

In English, we have continued with our book The Disgusting Sandwich!  We gave our teachers instructions for making a disgusting sandwich to help us with the instructions that we are going to write next week! We had to make sure the instructions were clear. When we were unclear, the teachers made funny mistakes!

We were all VERY excited on Thursday because it was our turn to BOUNCE FOR BOOKS! We had SO much fun bouncing on the bouncy castle and helped raise lots of money to but books for our library. THANK YOU PISA for organising this fun event.

Week 1: W/C 15th April 2024

What a fantastic first week back!

Where do we start?

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week. You are all brilliant and we are very proud of you!

In English we have started a new learning journey. Our new book is called The Disgusting Sandwich. First we explored the word disgusting and thought of synonyms for this word. We looked at the badgers facial features and decided that his pointed ears, wide eyes, raised eyebrows and tongue sticking out made him look excited about potentially eating the sandwich! We wrote some great predications about what we thought might happen in the story and enjoyed reading the book to find out what really happens.

In Maths, we have been learning about how to represent number on unstructured number lines. We also learned how to add a two-digit number and ones using unstructured number lines and by drawing dienes.

In PSHE, we learned about how we learn and the importance of being resilient and not giving up. We also learned about the importance of having people around us to motivate and encourage us. We set challenges for some children to complete while the rest of us called out motivational words and phrases to encourage our peers to succeed.

In RE our new concept is creation. We discussed the word creation and what we thought it means. We all had a piece of playdough and had to ‘create’ something. How interesting our creations were!

To finish, we would like to thank PISA for paying for our incredible ROCK KIDZ day. What a blast it was! We all looked ROCK-TASTIC in our outfits and had a fantastic time with Cal and Jonathan the Rock Stars! They made us laugh SO much, but most importantly, they taught us a new song called ‘Don’t Quit’ which was all about being resilient and not giving up!
